Cherry Blossom Festival System

The 9th Annual Cherry Blossom Festival is a week-long celebration of the annual blossoming of the cherry trees. This city-wide festival invites people to enjoy the beauty of the flowering scenery, while taking part in this traditional Japanese cultural experience. Along with tours, cycling groups and art classes, performances by Maikos and Geishas are featured, as well.

With the intent of attracting a larger demographic, a festival system was designed to appeal to all ages, with a focus on people from ages 16-25. Instead of using the traditional pale pink of the blossoms, a bright magenta was used as the festival colour. To symbolize the rich culture this festival represents, dolls commonly found in Japanese shrines appear as festival mascots, casting a shadow of a blossom petal.

After entry, the festival ticket can be kept as a souvenir, or used as a good luck charm. The instructions encourage the holder to tie the good luck charm onto a tree branch. This practice is very common in Japan, and integrates the festival identity back into the scenery.

Hanging on a tree branch, the ticket mimics a dancing Geisha. When held, the holder falls victim to the Geisha’s alluring gaze.

The words “good luck” are printed on the back of the ticket.
